At around 1:00am Efraim Klien (47) HY”D was driving down Schenectady Ave. when eye witnesses claim to have heard and seen 3 shots being fired at the minivan Efrayim was driving, after the shots the van swerved and turned into Carroll St. where he was weaving and was all over the road and went running into parked cars from the beginning of the block until hitting one car in the middle of the block bringing the car to a complete stop.

The minivan then burst into flames and 2 bystanders ran to the van and got the injured victim out of the vehicle and put out the flames. At this point Hatzalah members were already showing up on scene and began performing basic life support, at which time a Hatzalah Ambulance and a FDNY Ambulance had shown up, Hatzalah transported the victim to KCH where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

On report of the passing to all the units of Hatzalah, Shomrim & Police, snow began falling and quickly a layer covered the street only to make any search harder for police in any effort in finding any clues as to what had happened tonight.

Police are still trying to figure out what happened, and where the victim was originally shot, in a brief conversation with a ranking officer on scene he said that Police are looking into the possibility that the victim was shot on Union St. & Schenectady Ave. but still have no idea where he was shot.

The victim who was 42 years of age leaves behind a son who he was going to marry off next week and a daughter who is currently in Israel.

Police have initiated a Level One Mobilization in which every extra hand is called in to search for suspects, or in this case to search for any evidence of a suspect. As of now there has been no progress made.

see? no one believes me!! crown heights sucks!!! i swear to g-d im moving outta here, i dont want my kids to grow up in such a place! i dont care if you argue that this is the rebbe’s neighborhood, or where 770 is, or "kan tziva" etc…. the fact is that this nieghborhood is mixes with blacks and whites, and some of these blacks are very dangerous (as you can see from this article). (for the record, if there is any black person that reads this, i want to state something right now: when was the last time a jew shot a black person, or a jew mugged, robbed, or raped a black person, or ANY person for that matter??!!)
my point is that this is a dangerous and unsafe (aside from dirty and rat infested)nieghborhood and i dont want to live here anymore, not me, not my kids, at least untill some things change around here. but i doubt they will. there will always be goyim living here, and so there will always be crime. and i would rather be somewhere that the population is small, and so crime is small.
(everyone here is welcome to my new SAFE house when i get one OUT of crown heights lol)
i hope you people understand what im saying. and i urge those who dont agree with me to state why.
    thank you.
    be safe.

  • smells SICK!

"snow began falling and quickly a layer snow covered the street only to make any search harder for police in any effort in finding any clues as to what had happened tonight."

hmmm…. from the pictures it doesnt seem like much snow! doesnt make any sense as to why it would be harder for the police to find clues…

    I smell a rat…

3 shots. dead on arrival. police having a hard time finding suspects… it took just HOW long to find Ari Halberstam’s murderer? and THAT took place OUT of the neighborhood… and here in our own neighborhood we can’t find a suspect???

  • hmm

Some news reports are implying that it may have been stray bullets from a local gang war. I wonder what the chances are of a Jew being hit directly TWICE while in his car..hmmm…I guess they always play it down to avoid panic and uprising of emotions.

TOO :Midwood- its very unfortunate what happened in CH. (May Hashem comfort his family). However, the grass aint greener on the other side. G-d runs the world. Reminds me of a story: This young couple with their little daughter didn’t like the city they lived in so they moved to a very quite area in the midwest. The week they moved, they were driving down the highway where a piece of the bridge feel on them and they all died. Hashem Yishmorinu.

My point is that there’s a G*d in this world. And he does things we don’t understand. You can not run from him.

Reb Efraim Klein HY”D was a property owner in Williamsburg and some other locations. I heard from his own mouth a few moths ago that people are trying to buy his land. Perhaps he was in contract in selling one of his properties and the negotiations broke down and someone decided to take the law in their own hands.

I don’t know that there is a connection between the murder and his ownership of property, but it should definitely be looked into.

Again it is pure speculation, but he did mention that people really wanted his parcel of land.

    please dont speak that way.

    1) Just because the community may not suit you does not mean its not good for others, someone else may need to live in a community such as this and your comments may convince him to leave, which can be a loss for him

2)remember the titanic? probably not, but you definitly know the story. They clamed to have the safest ship, please dont bring any ‘Ayin Hara’ to your new home where ever it may be.

  • another mommy in CH

concerned member, maybe you should be telling this story to the police and not on crownheights.info???

  • ld8

All the windows of the minivan look intact in the pictures.
Where are the shatterted windows or at least the bullit holes?

  • Midwood(Bus)342

yes, the grass may be greener on the other side, and perhaps this neighborhood may be "suit" others. however, you cant argue with statistics. fact is fact. crime is high in crown heights. it was high in the 1980’s, the 1990’s (remember the riots in ’91?) and it is high once again now. its sad that you cant leave your car unlocked without worrying about a dereck nelson, or leave your childrens toys outside in the garden (if you even are fortunate enough to have one in ch) without worrying about a shvartze stealing it to buy weed, or for a 16 year old kid riding on your 5 year old daughter’s pink bicycle! these things dont happen in small quiet areas. and to "mother in ch", your story has signifigance of course but a bridge can fall anywhere. why jump in front of the car? understand where im going with this? yes g*d is in control but that doesnt mean that you can confidently cross the street with your eyes closed. what happened to "ushmartem es nafshosaychem"??? would you walk in to harlem at 1am? (i wouldnt even drive through). if you know that a community is high in crime why would you want to live there? why would you encourage people to live there?

and to the person who wrote a comment in my name (midwood342)… who "needs" to live here?? and what type of elevated crime community is "suited" for someone?
and about my "new safe house" that was just a joke, im not moving anywhere yet, but hopefully iy"h one day i will.
and for the future, please dont use my name when you comment, its rude and unoriginal.
    thank you.
    shmuly.

The police are doing everything they could to keep your community safe. The police department is not the cause of this tragedy. Blaming the police is not the answer for your troubles. You must pray and stand strong, and fear not the evils of our society. May the soul of Mr. Klien rest in peace, and may his family and community hear no more of such sorrow.

    att. midwood:
if the rebbe said that kan tzivah hashem es habracha? how could you argue! all we have to do is make ourselves vessels for the Brochos- take on a resolution…

  • Rabbi Menachem Blau

There is a SEGULAH from the Lubavitcher Rebbe (printed in Likutei Sichos & Iggros Kodesh) for SAFETY in a car, which the Rebbe asked to publicize. To have in EVERY car: 1)a Siddur 2)a Tehillim 3)a Tanya 4)a Tzedakah box. At a later time the rebbe added also: a Chumash.

  • midwood

    att. shmuly
im not saying that the rebbe didnt say kan tzivah, im just saying that this is not a place for children to grow up, and i dont feel safe here. when i have my own children iy"h, i dont want them to be exposed to such things. no matter how you slice it, crown heights is not safe. must i bring you headline after headline and story after story as proof?

  • moishy

    att. midwood:

you don’t sound like you’re willing to be convinced (no one can bring you stronger arguments than the words of the Rebbe!!!)

Hatzlacha in your move (whenever that may be) and may your new community benefit from your presence there!!

  • Pnimiyus

Midwood342, while we are busy denegrating blacks let’s try to remember that according to the reports it was two black people who attempted, at risk to their own safety, to save the victim. These people should be publicly praised. Try to keep focus here: As Jews we have been taught throughout the generations to look within, not without, when there is trouble. There is no better example of this than the story of Purim. When Yiddin did not act up to standard, the enemy was able to bring them down. When they did Tshuva, the VERY SAME enemy was not able to touch them and was himself destroyed. Let Mr. Klein, HY"D, not have given his life in vain. Let us all do some soul searching (and not into the souls of others, but ONLY each into his or her own soul) and find ways of protecting ourselves by doing more of what G-d expects from us.

  • midwood

to moishy: nope, im not willing to be convinced.

and to pnimiyus: as i said in my previous comment, not all black people/goyim are criminals. but, in this neighborhood many of them are very dangerous. you are correct that we should praise those two black people who pulled him out of the car.
    i agree with that.
but the facts still remain about the other blacks here who are not as nice (so to speak).

  • AD MOSAI!!!!!!!!!!!

    Midwood(Bus)342:

to whoever u r, y r u telling ppl NOT to use ure name and that its unoriginal?! did u ever think for one sec that u r not the only shmuly in this world!!!!!
and crimes happen whereever u go, NOT just in crown heights! so if u want to try and run away from all this crime, ure not going to get very far, nomatter where u go, there will always be crime!
but, we will always have someone to watch over us…g-d. even in the worst of times, he will always be there, we just dont know and cant understand the meaning for all these crimes and murders.

    AD MOSAI!!!

I bet the person who committed this crime will be caught in the worst case scenario on other charges. This is still not justice. Let us hope and pray that no one else becomes a victim to this criminal. Criminals rarely strike only once and while this may not be a very comforting thought to those in our community, at least we know that they are likely to be caught and hopefully soon before they can commit another crime.

    POLITUCIANS TALK A LOT
BUT WHAT IS IT THIS GOING TO ACHIVE????

WE NEED TO ACT NOT TO TALK.

PATROLING EACH BLOCK BY ITS RESIDENTS IS A GOOD IDEA BUT I THINK IT IS NOT REALISTIC BECAUSE PEOPLE IN THIS NEIGBOUROOD ARE VERY MUCH APATHETIC.

PUTTING MORE COPS ON THE STREETS IS ONLY TEMPORARY SOLUTION BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER BE WATCHING THE STREETS FOR THE LONG TIME. AS SOON AS THE EXITMENT IS OVER THE POLICE WILL DISSAPEAR AS IT HAPPEND MANY TIMES BEFORE.

SO WHAT IS THE PERMANENT SOLUTION WHICH WILL INSTEAL FEAR IN THE HEARTS OF SAVAGES WHO COMMITS THESE TERRIBLE CRIMES??????

DO WE HAVE STREET LIGHTS ON EVERY MAJOR INTERSECTION? YES.
FEDERAL GOVERMENT PUTS THEM THERE FOR OUR PROTECTION, RIGHT?

WHY DO NOT WE AS A COMMUNITY INSTALL VIDEO SURVELLANCE ON THE SAME MAJOIR INTERSECTIONS FOR THE SAME PUPROSE: SAVETY OUR PEOPLE?

OF COURSE IF THE GOVERNMENT WILL DO IT THET WOULD BE NICE, BUT I DOUBT THEY WILL HAVE A FUNDING FOR THIS.

I HOPE THAT SOMEONE FROM COMMINITY COUNSIL IS READING THIS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A REAL POWER TO MAKE THIS HAPPENED.

I AM SURE THAT THE FUND CAN BE ESTABLISHED FOR ALL THE MEMBERS TO PITCH IN AND THE MONEY CAN BE USED FOR THOSE CAMERAS.

WAKE UP PEOPLE ——————>WE REALLY NEED TO DO IT!!!!!!!
