Donetsk, Ukraine – September 5th, the Jewish Regional Community of Donetsk will inaugurate a new Jewish Community Center.
This three-story building is located at Oktyabrskaya street 39, not far from the Synagogue. All Jews of Donetsk and its region are welcome to participate in the inauguration ceremony; personal invitations have been sent to 2000 prominent personalities of the region.
There will be an exciting show featuring a famous actor from the “Shalom” Jewish Theater, Yevgeniy Valevich, who has already performed in Donetsk at last year’s Chanukah event.
The Mayor of Donetsk, Mr. Lukyanchenko is also expected to take part in the dedication as well as other prominent figures including FJC CIS President Lev Leviev and Director of Kolel Chabad Rabbi Sholom Duchman.
The Community Center has been built at the initiative of Chief Rabbi of Donbass Pinchas Vyshedsky with the support of Kolel Chabad and Ohr Avner Foundation, as well as with the assistance of local donors of Donetsk, members of the Donetsk Regional Jewish Community. A great deal of help came from the elected deputy of the Ukrainian Parliament Mr. Akhmentov who helped with the arrangements for the inauguration event and lodging guests from abroad.
The Community Center will host educational programs for Jewish children, youths and adults, as well as sports activities, a library, a kosher diary café, a banquet hall and a lecture hall. The interior was designed by top architects. The Community Center has an autonomous heating system, as well as air conditioning and ventilation.
The opening of the new Jewish Community Center promises to be an unforgettable event for the local residents and a wonderful gift for the approaching Rosh Hashana.
