CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A 12-year-old Jewish girl was the victim of a vicious racially motivated physical and verbal gang assault by a large group of 10-year-old Black boys in a local playground.

The incident took place Tuesday evening at around 7:00pm in the new playground on Montgomery Street between Troy and Schenectady Avenues, according to an account by the girls mother she said that the group first tried provoking her into fighting with them by verbally taunting her, following it up with throwing a ball at her.

Refusing to be pushed around the girl took the ball and threw it back, the group then surrounded her and pulled her by her hair to the ground and started kicking and hitting her. One witness from the street saw what was going on and tried to intervene, and the group just dragged her further into the park.

During the onslaught one of the assailants slammed the girls head into a metal slide and she briefly lost consciousness. The witness finally managed to get the group off the girl and other Jewish neighbors who noticed the commotion brought her to their house and called her mother.

After work the father of the girl went to the park to try and find the kids which was when a witness came forward and told him what she had seen, which was a group of around 10 black children beating on the girl that was laying on the floor while yelling at her and calling her a “dirty Jew.”

Not knowing the severity of the attack the girls mother didn’t feel the need to call police, only after he returned from the park did they understand the severity of the attack and decided to call 911, which was at around 8:30pm. Many officers responded took a statement from the victim and the witness, who approached and told officer what she had seen earlier.

Not knowing what to do the officers asked the victim and her mother to come down to the station house to speak with a superior there. After a prolonged wait they finally spoke with a Captain or Lieutenant who told the victim that their story does not make sense to him and there is nothing that he can do.

At the precinct the girl complained of pains and from the precinct the girl was transported at around 1:00am to a local hospital where she was checked out by an ER doctor who told the parents she suffered a concussion and that she was fine but needed to be observed at home.
