MIAMI BEACH, FL — Police are investigating a scare which took place at south Florida Yeshiva.

Police said vandals shot at the door of the Lubavitch Education Center along 12th Street and Alton Road as children played inside. Glass shattered everywhere.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A young Jewish boy was attacked this evening while on his way home. The victim, a 10 year old was returning home from Yeshivas Erev. At approximately 8:15pm he was accosted by a large group of black youths near the corner of Kingston Ave and Lefferts Ave. Without uttering any words, one of them threw a basketball at the boy. It struck his face, smashing his glasses and injuring him.

WILLIAMSBURG — A thief stole the fancy holiday hat off a Hasidic man’s head on Friday night, October 2nd, the first night of Sukkos.

The victim was walking from Shul at around 9:30pm and was near Wallabout Street and Throop Avenue when two young men approached him from behind. One of them lifted the man’s shtreimel, a fur hat with a $1,200 price tag, then both ran off.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Lubavitcher Yungerman was attacked on Shabbos morning on his way to Shul. The incident unfolded when a Black man passed the Jew and intentionally bumped into him, knocking him back slightly, then attempted to punch him.

The incident took place on Troy Avenue between Carroll and President Streets, and the assailant was described as being around 25 years old with an average height and build.

LONG BEACH, CA — A 30-year-old Los Angeles man pleaded no contest Wednesday to a charge that he killed a 61-year-old rabbi while driving drunk two years ago.

Willie Norton Jr., 30, entered his plea - considered the same as a guilty plea in criminal court - as jury selection was slated to begin in his trial Wednesday, said Long Beach Police Sgt. Hans Kohnlein.

After entering his plea Norton was promptly sentenced to 17 years in prison, said Kohnlein, who is in charge of the Accident Investigations Detail.

The victim, [Gedalia] Shaffer, was visiting from Brooklyn, New York, on March 7, 2007, when the fatal crash occurred.

A confrontation between a black woman and a Lubavitcher girl on a subway ended with the theft of a cell phone, and a later attempt to retrieve it yielded a ransom request by the woman from the earlier confrontation. The victim thought of calling Shomrim, but didn’t at first thinking that it wouldn’t be right to trouble them with such a trivial matter, but later called and together they retrieved the phone. The following letter was sent to us by the victim:
To the Shomrim of Crown Heights:

I am writing this letter to express my thanks for what Shomrim did for me this week.

My phone was stolen, and I soon had given up hope on ever retrieving it. That was only until I decided to call Shomrim of course.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Friday afternoon, a duo of not-so-bright muggers snatched a shopping bag of frozen chickens from two Jewish girls. The incident took place on Crown Street when the two muggers, a Black man in his mid 20’s and a Black girl in her late teens, walked passed the two Jewish girls and snatched one of their shopping bags.

Turns out the bag they stole contained frozen chickens.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — A jealous husband who thought his wife was cheating shot her twice in front of horrified onlookers on a busy Crown Heights street Tuesday, police and witnesses said.

Kaidan Ramsey, 22, desperately tried to escape her enraged husband, Lenox Ramsey, 25, after he followed her onto the campus at Medgar Evers College. He then chased her down Carroll St., grabbing her arm and screaming, “I got a gun, don't f--- with me!” witnesses said.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Montgomery Street residents were startled when cries of “help, help!” were shouted late Friday night. The incident took place between Albany and Troy Avenues at around 11:30pm when a Bochur was walking home from a Sholom Zochor, and was surrounded by a group of around 5 Black males of various ages.

One resident told CrownHeights.info that he heard the calls for help and he immediately ran out, sparing the Bochur a beating, and spotted a number of the group fleeing. A number of the residents gave chase and caught two of the group.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A 12-year-old Jewish girl was the victim of a vicious racially motivated physical and verbal gang assault by a large group of 10-year-old Black boys in a local playground.

The incident took place Tuesday evening at around 7:00pm in the new playground on Montgomery Street between Troy and Schenectady Avenues, according to an account by the girls mother she said that the group first tried provoking her into fighting with them by verbally taunting her, following it up with throwing a ball at her.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Lubavitcher man was attacked Friday night on his way home from Shul by a group of four Black teens, in an apparent hate crime.

The incident happened at around 9:30pm on President Street between Kingston and Albany Avenues, where the 28-year-old was grabbed by one of the group and put into a headlock or chokehold and the other three began punching him, he was then thrown to the ground and the four began kicking him. A Jewish woman who witnessed the attack began screaming and chased the group off.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A teenage punk attempted to mug a Jewish woman of her purse Wednesday afternoon, but was unsuccessful thanks to an unrelenting victim. The incident took place on Albany Avenue and President Street, where a Black teen approached the woman and grabbed the strap of her purse and tried to snatch it.

Unwilling to give in, the woman held on and called for help. A number of Yidden came to her aid and the would-be purse snatcher fled. An attempt to chase the punk failed after they lost him in a crowd at Troy Avenue and Union Street.
