As they evaluate the inaugural Israelinks summer trip to the Holy Land, student participants and organizers with the Chabad on Campus International Foundation are proclaiming the three-week sightseeing and spiritual journey a resounding success.
“This is one of the most engaging programs we’ve run this year,” stated Rabbi Yossy Gordon, executive director of the Brooklyn-based Chabad on Campus, the arm of the worldwide Chabad-Lubavitch movement that’s dedicated to supporting the activities of the more than 100 shluchim families serving college campuses. “The response of students has been particularly energizing.

Daniel in Baghdad
Parkland, FL — Daniel Agami's parents were surprised two years ago when he announced he was joining the Army.
They called him their beloved son. The military called him great promotional material and planned to have him appear in an advertising campaign. Because of his adherence to his faith, his fellow infantrymen affectionately called him “G.I. Jew.”

On this auspicious day of Gimmel Tammuz, a person might think; of what significance am I in the Rebbe’s “grand plan”? The Rebbe is investing in the potential of the Jewish nation as a whole to bring the Geula. As an individual person how do I fit into the picture? How much do I count?
Some stories that I have heard from distinguished people follow. These stories teach us that the Rebbe is connected with every Yid on an individual and personal level.

In 1969, I was the Chairman of the Young Leadership Cabinet of the national United Jewish Appeal. As such, I was invited to deliver the keynote address to the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds Annual Conference, being held that year in November in Boston. The theme was “Youth Looks at the Future of the American Jewish Community.” I spent six months preparing for this talk. Usually, I speak extemporaneously with at most a one-page outline. This time — because of its importance — I elected to read the entire speech.

Lately, I’ve been reading some very strange things in various Jewish media outlets about the history of kiruv (outreach) in America. I’ve had to read some of these articles several times over just to be certain my eyes weren’t deceiving me.
How can history be revised with such impunity? Anyone familiar with the development of Judaism in America knows that almost immediately after he arrived in the U.S. in March 1940, the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe proclaimed he’d come here to demonstrate that “America is not different” – that even in America one could live as a traditional Jew.
And so, as virtually his first order of business in America, the Rebbe founded the first Lubavitcher yeshiva on these shores. That very same day he also established Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, the educational arm of Chabad, thereby sowing the seeds of Torah-true education in America. The next day, he formally launched Chabad-Lubavitch outreach activities in the U.S.

West Palm Beach, FL — Neighbors will have to wait until July before a special master determines if a West Boynton home allegedly being used as a synagogue and attracting dozens of worshipers will be forced to shut down.
After more than three hours of debate Wednesday, special master Earl Mallory said he will wait until July 3 to decide.
“I've got mixed feelings,” said Mallory, who battled with balancing the freedom of assembly and religious expression and a violation of the building code.
